Youth Development and Mentoring Program (YDMP) YDMP will be hiring 100 16-18 year old high school students across Oakland, Wayne, and Macomb County this summer. Student positions will be paid between $9.00 and $9.50 per hour and selected applicants will be employed for 40 hours per week. Three days out of the week is dedicated to community outreach activities and two days out of the week is dedicated to mentoring. Mentoring activities include college campus tours, resume’ writing and interviewing skills, financial literacy training, and many other fun activities.
The work provides the participants with a meaningful work experience, practical knowledge, and also serves as an invaluable tool for instilling a good work ethic. The participants perform maintenance activities such as the following:
Weeding and removing vegetation around guardrails and road signs
Cleaning rest areas/welcome centers
Performing and maintaining landscaping
Repairing and maintaining rest area features (picnic tables, posts, etc.)
Mowing and maintaining roadside parks and scenic turnouts
Assisting with erosion control measures and cleaning edge drain and culvert outlets
